Uncovering the Secrets of Zeon’s Mining Operation

In the midst of the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon’s mining efforts take center stage in this pivotal episode of Mobile Suit Gundam. The Eighteenth Episode: A Turning Point

As Kycilia’s ship, the Gwazine, sets off from the moon city of Granada, bound for Earth, the stage is set for a dramatic confrontation. Meanwhile, Amuro Ray, the young pilot of the Gundam, has gone into hiding, seeking refuge in the ruins of a small desert town.

A Chance Encounter

As Amuro sits down to eat, he’s startled by the sound of a low-flying aircraft approaching. To his surprise, it’s the Adzam, a mobile armor piloted by M’Quve and Kycilia. Amuro watches as they pass out of sight, unaware of the significance of this chance encounter.

Desertion and Loyalty

Back on the White Base, the crew is divided on what to do with Amuro, who has been labeled a deserter. Fraw Bow is outraged by the suggestion that Amuro should be executed, but the harsh reality of war begins to sink in.

A Mission of Reconnaissance

Fraw continues to track Amuro, eventually leading her to a massive Zeon mining base. As they observe from a distance, M’Quve and Kycilia discuss the resources obtained through the base. Amuro decides to take matters into his own hands, launching a solo attack on the base.

A Daring Plan

With the Gundam, Amuro sets out to destroy the mine, hoping to prevent the Federation Army from mobilizing to attack it. But as he begins his assault, the stakes are higher than ever before.

This episode was written by Kenichi Matsuzaki, with unit direction by Shinya Sadamitsu and animation direction by Kazuo Nakamura. Notably, it was one of the episodes selected for Gundam Day 2021.
