Apsaras II: The Powerful Mobile Armor
Overview
The Apsaras II is a prototype heavy assault atmospheric mobile armor developed by the Principality of Zeon. It was piloted by Aina Sahalin and featured in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.
Design and Features
The Apsaras II is equipped with a Minovsky ultracompact fusion reactor, which provides a power output of 1400 kW (1877.43 hp). It has a tandem-seat cockpit, with a pilot and co-pilot seated in the main body. The mobile armor is also equipped with a mega particle cannon, which is capable of superheating earth and causing an explosion on impact.
Minovsky Craft System
The Apsaras II features a Minovsky craft system, which allows it to resist the pull of Earth’s gravity. This system uses Minovsky particles to create a three-dimensional cubic lattice, which resists compression and allows the mobile armor to float over the Earth’s surface.
History
The Apsaras II engaged the 08th Mobile Suit Team in a canyon in Southeast Asia. Although it was able to escape the initial trap, Ensign Shiro Amada leapt aboard the mobile armor in his RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type and hung on. The Apsaras II was forced to flee into the upper atmosphere, but eventually descended into the mountains. However, equilibrium problems caused by the use of a single generator and the weight of Shiro’s Gundam caused the mobile armor to begin to roll to the side and descend at a dangerous rate. Shiro was able to prevent the Apsaras II from falling off the side of the mountain by removing the limiters to his Gundam. Aina eventually set the detonation device for the Apsaras II and left to look for Shiro. When the Federation forces arrived, Aina activated the self-destruct from a safe distance, destroying the mobile armor.
Appearances
The Apsaras II has appeared in various media, including television, movies, OVAs, manga, and games. It was first seen in episode #25 of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team and has since appeared in other series and media.
