Gundam’s Behemoth: Unleashing the MA-05Ad Big Rang

MA-05Ad Big Rang: The Mobile Armor Powerhouse

In the world of Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: Apocalypse 0079, the MA-05Ad Big Rang is a force to be reckoned with. Classified as a “mobile bridgehead,” this behemoth of a machine is comprised of two parts: the control unit and the Ad unit, short for “ammunition depot.” The control unit is a repurposed MA-05 Bigro, boasting improved power output, additional arm joints, and a pair of massive claws that serve as multi-purpose manipulators.

Armaments and Capabilities

The Big Rang’s arsenal is impressive, to say the least. Its main weapon is the mega particle cannon, capable of destroying multiple Salamis-class cruisers with a single shot. Additionally, it’s equipped with a pair of 4-tube missile launchers, a large-caliber Gatling cannon, and four Beam Dispersal Missile Launchers. The Ad unit itself is a mobile armor whose development was halted, but it’s been repurposed as a lightly armed frontline supply depot, capable of resupplying and repairing mobile weapons.

Special Features and Equipment

The Big Rang’s Ad unit boasts a catapult/hangar and equipment bay, allowing multiple MP-02A Oggo mobile pods to dock, repair, and resupply simultaneously. This feature enables the Oggo squadron to sustain long battle periods. The beam dispersal launchers are essential to the Big Rang’s survival, as they provide protection against beam cannons. However, its exposed underside remains a vulnerable weak point.

History and Combat Performance

Developed by the Zeon Engineering Department, the Big Rang was rushed into production, salvaged from several halted or abandoned projects. On December 31, U.C. 0079, during the Battle of A Baoa Qu, the 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit received the Big Rang and was ordered to assist in the defense of A Baoa Qu’s E Field. Piloted by Oliver May, the Big Rang proved to be a formidable weapon, sinking three Salamis-class cruisers with its mega particle cannon and protecting the Oggos with its beam dispersal screens.

Trivia and References

The Big Rang appears in the Extreme Vs. series, where it’s counted as a warship in the versus screen rather than a traditional boss. Its design was detailed by Yutaka Izubuchi, and it’s featured in various games and media, including SD Gundam G Generation Spirits and Super Gundam Royale.
