The Final Stand: Operation Star One
In the waning days of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces launched a desperate bid to crush the Principality of Zeon’s last stronghold: the space fortress A Baoa Qu. This final battle, known as Operation Star One, would decide the fate of the war and the future of humanity.
The Stage is Set
As the war raged on, Zeon’s military might had dwindled to a fraction of its former strength. The Federation, sensing victory within their grasp, prepared to deliver the coup de grâce. On December 26, 0079 UC, the 1st Combined Fleet, led by General Johann Abraham Revil, set out from Confeito, bound for A Baoa Qu.
The Solar Ray
Zeon’s leader, Gihren Zabi, had one last trick up his sleeve: the Solar Ray, a massive laser cannon converted from one of Side 3’s colonies. With the Solar Ray, Zeon could annihilate the Federation Fleet and turn the tide of the war. On December 30, the Solar Ray fired, vaporizing a third of the Federation attack force.
The Battle Rages On
Despite the devastating blow, the Federation Forces regrouped and continued their assault on A Baoa Qu. The battle raged on, with both sides suffering heavy losses. Zeon’s defenses were formidable, but the Federation’s sheer numbers began to tell.
The Turning Point
As the battle reached its climax, a small group of Federation mobile suits, led by the Jack the Halloween Team, infiltrated A Baoa Qu and destroyed the Mini Solar Ray, a smaller version of the Solar Ray. This turned the tide of the battle, and Zeon’s defenses began to crumble.
The Fall of A Baoa Qu
With their defenses breached, Zeon’s forces retreated, leaving A Baoa Qu to fall to the Federation. The space fortress, once the symbol of Zeon’s power, was no more. The war was all but over.
Aftermath
In the aftermath of the battle, the remnants of Zeon’s forces fled to the asteroid base Axis, while others, like Char Aznable, escaped to continue the fight another day. The One Year War was finally at an end, but the consequences of the conflict would be felt for generations to come.
