The Rewloola-Class: A Formidable Battleship

The Rewloola-class battleship is a behemoth of a vessel, introduced in the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack and later in the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn OVA series. This commanding ship serves as the flagship of Char Aznable’s Newborn Neo Zeon movement, boasting impressive firepower and mobile suit deployment capabilities.

Design and Features

The Rewloola-class is developed from the former Principality of Zeon’s flagship, the Gwazine-class. It features two launch catapults, one above and another below its bow, which can also serve as recovery decks. The ship has a large internal maintenance bay connected to both launch bays. Additionally, it is equipped with twelve thermonuclear thrusters and two large cooling fins along the hull at its midsection to maximize heat irradiation from its high engine output. The ship also has long-range cruising ability, thanks to its twelve propellant tanks.

Armaments

The Rewloola-class is armed with an array of powerful weapons, including:

• Five dual-barrel main beam guns, with two on the dorsal side of the bow, two on the ventral side of the bow, and one behind the bridge.
• Two dual-barrel secondary beam guns, one in front of the bridge and another behind the ventral mobile suit catapult.
• Twenty 3-barrel machine guns arranged in batteries of two or three on the sides of the ship for anti-missile and anti-mobile suit defense.
• An unknown number of missile launchers, with at least three on each side of the ship’s bow alongside an 8-tube missile battery aft of the bridge.

History

The Rewloola-class saw heavy action during the Second Neo Zeon War, first coming under fire while capturing Fifth Luna and dropping it onto Earth, and then again at the Battle for Axis. The ship performed exceptionally well during both battles, but was heavily damaged at the end of the war. It managed to escape and was later repaired, becoming the flagship of the Neo Zeon remnants known as the “Sleeves” (Neo Zeon). The ship was involved in the Laplace Incident in UC 0096, until it was destroyed by the Gryps 2 Colony Laser.
