Revolutionary Mobile Warfare: The YMT-05 Hildolfr Story

The YMT-05 Hildolfr: A Revolutionary Mobile Tank

In the midst of the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon embarked on a top-secret project to develop a super-tank capable of attacking tactical targets such as armored fortresses or Big Tray-class land battleships. The result was the YMT-05 Hildolfr, a mobile tank that defied conventional design and pushed the boundaries of mobile warfare.

Design and Features

The Hildolfr was a behemoth of a machine, standing at an impressive 8.60 meters in height and 35.30 meters in length. Its massive frame was powered by a Minovsky fusion reactor, which provided the necessary energy to support its advanced systems. The tank’s main armament was a 30cm cannon, capable of firing various types of projectiles at a range of 32 kilometers. Additionally, the Hildolfr was equipped with multiple smoke dischargers, which could be used to create a smoke screen or disrupt enemy sensors.

One of the Hildolfr’s most innovative features was its ability to transform into a mobile mode, where the fixed artillery turret was raised, revealing a mobile suit-style torso and manipulator arms. In this mode, the Hildolfr could use the arms to wield MS weapons such as a Zaku-type machine gun, making it a formidable opponent in close combat.

Combat History

The Hildolfr was first deployed in May 0079, during the Zeon invasion of Earth. Maj. Demeziere Sonnen, an accomplished artillery instructor, was assigned to pilot the tank. During its maiden battle, the Hildolfr proved to be a game-changer, taking out multiple enemy MS units with its powerful cannon. Despite being heavily damaged, the Hildolfr managed to hold its own against overwhelming odds, earning its place in the annals of mobile warfare history.

Legacy

Although the Hildolfr project was ultimately canceled, its impact on mobile warfare was significant. The data collected from its combat tests was used to develop future mobile suits, including the YMS-16M Xamel. The Hildolfr’s innovative design and capabilities paved the way for future generations of mobile tanks and artillery platforms.
