Desertion in the Desert
In the scorching desert of Asia, the White Base trudges on, its crew exhausted but determined. Amuro, the young pilot, is busy analyzing combat data from the captured Zaku, planning to upgrade the Gundam’s capabilities. Meanwhile, Kai relieves Mirai from her post, and Cozun, the Zeon prisoner, remains tight-lipped despite Bright’s efforts to extract information.
A Leaky Faucet and a Nude Encounter
As Amuro walks down the hallway, he slips on a puddle of water seeping from beneath Mirai’s door. Kikka, Mirai’s friend, pleads with him to fix the leaky faucet. Amuro enters the room, fixing the tap, but not before an awkward encounter with a nude Mirai, who almost steps out of the bathroom unaware of his presence.
Supply and Repair
The White Base receives supplies and repairs, including a refurbished Zaku II. Ral and Hamon discuss their upcoming mission, with Ral hoping to gain a two-rank promotion and a better life for himself and his men. Hamon seems skeptical, but Ral is determined to succeed.
Cozun’s Escape
Cozun, the cunning prisoner, uses a fake molar made of plastic explosives to break out of his cell. He offers to free Sayla, but she alerts the guards, and Cozun flees into the depths of White Base. Amuro, meanwhile, launches in the Guntank with Hayato, defying Bright’s orders to use the Gundam.
Battle and Betrayal
As the White Base approaches a Zeon mining base, Amuro and Hayato engage in battle. Cozun breaks into the radio room, sending crucial data to the Gallop before being discovered by Sayla. The bridge cuts off the communication, but not before Cozun escapes. Amuro criticizes Bright’s tactics, and the battle rages on.
Amuro’s Desertion
Amuro, frustrated with Bright’s decisions, decides to leave White Base. He snaps at Mirai when she tries to ask him more and flees towards the hangar. Amuro jumps into the Gundam and takes off, disappearing into the desert night. Bright is left to wonder what has happened to his young pilot.
