Zeon’s Underwater Fortress: The Mad Angler-Class Submarine Carrier

Mad Angler-class: The Principality of Zeon’s Formidable Submarine Carrier

The Mad Angler-class is a behemoth of a submarine, designed to serve as a mobile suit carrier for the Principality of Zeon. Originally an Earth Federation design, the Mad Angler-class was modified by Zeon to accommodate their unique needs. This massive vessel boasts an enormous carrying capacity, capable of holding three amphibious mobile suit teams, one MAM-07 Grublo aquatic mobile armor, six Sealance aquatic fighters, and multiple small reconnaissance aircraft.

Design and Characteristics

The Mad Angler-class measures an impressive 300 meters in length and 115 meters in height. Its hydrojet thrusters provide the necessary propulsion to navigate through the ocean depths. The submarine’s hull is designed to withstand the intense pressure of the deep sea, making it an ideal platform for launching surprise attacks on enemy forces.

Armaments and Defenses

The Mad Angler-class is equipped with a range of armaments, including anti-ship missile launchers and a variety of mobile suits and mobile armors. Its defenses are bolstered by the presence of multiple Sealance aquatic fighters, which provide air support and intercept enemy aircraft.

History

In U.C. 0079, the Principality of Zeon captured an Earth Federation submarine construction facility at California Base, where they modified eight Lockwood-class submarines to create the Mad Angler-class. These vessels played a crucial role in Zeon’s naval operations, providing mobile suit teams with a secure platform from which to launch attacks.

Notable Appearances

The Mad Angler-class has appeared in various forms of media, including the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. It has also been featured in several video games, such as Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link and Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front.

Variations

Several variations of the Mad Angler-class have been developed, including the Sand Angler-class, which serves as a successor to the original design. The Fukuchi Mobile Suit Station, a mobile suit maintenance facility, has also been built on the back of a Mad Angler-class submarine.
