The Jukon-Class Submarine: A Key Asset in the Principality of Zeon’s Naval Arsenal

The Jukon-class submarine is the mainstay of the Principality of Zeon’s underwater combat capabilities. Based on the Juneau-class, the Jukon-class removed some of its predecessor’s USM silos and replaced them with hangar space for mobile suits. This modification enabled the submarine to carry up to three aquatic mobile suits and one Sealance for reconnaissance and communication. Late production models were even capable of carrying more than four mobile suits.

Armaments and Capabilities

The Jukon-class submarine is equipped with a range of armaments, including 3-tube missile launchers and torpedo launchers. Its mobile suit hangar allows it to deploy a variety of mobile suits, including the MSM-03 Gogg, MSM-03C Hygogg, MSM-07E Z’Gok-E, and MS-09F/trop Dom Tropen.

Several Jukon-class submarines have been featured prominently in various conflicts, including U-99, U-801, and U-202. The U-99, in particular, played a key role in the assault on the E.F.F. Arctic Base.

History

The Jukon-class submarines were originally designed and constructed by the Earth Federation Forces as the Juneau-class. However, they were captured by Zeon forces during the invasion of Earth in U.C. 0079. The Zeon forces modified the submarines to carry specially developed amphibious mobile suits, making them a key military asset in numerous Gundam video games.
