Gattle: The Space Fighter-Bomber
The Gattle is a versatile space fighter-bomber that plays a crucial role in the Principality of Zeon’s armed forces. Classified as a “space fast heavy combat bomber,” this aircraft boasts impressive firepower and maneuverability.
Design and Features
The Gattle’s cockpit is double-seated, accommodating a pilot and copilot. The cockpit also serves as an escape capsule, equipped with rockets for short-term propulsion. The aircraft’s fuselage is designed with attitude control verniers, enhancing its agility and responsiveness.
Armaments
The Gattle is armed with an array of weapons, including:
- 2 x 30mm Vulcan guns mounted in front of each cockpit
- 2 x 5-tube missile launchers on either side of the cockpits
- 2 x Large anti-ship missiles (optional)
These armaments make the Gattle a formidable opponent in space combat, capable of engaging enemy fighters and mobile suits.
History
The Gattle saw extensive action throughout the One Year War, participating in battles from the One Week Battle to the final stages of the Battle of A Baoa Qu. Initially deployed as a “bridge” unit until the deployment of mobile suits, the Gattle continued to play a vital role in Zeon’s military operations. Later in the war, it was primarily used for base defense and stalling enemy advances.
Post-War Development
After the war, some Gattle units were converted into non-combat work boats. The MS-21C Dra-C, developed by combining the Gattle’s engine with the Zaku II, is a testament to the reliability and power of its engines.
