One Year War Ceasefire: The Granada Accord

The Granada Treaty: A Turning Point in the One Year War

In the midst of the devastating One Year War between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of the Granada Treaty. Signed on January 1, U.C. 0080, at the city of Granada on the Moon, this peace treaty brought an end to the brutal conflict that had ravaged the Earth Sphere.

Terms of the Treaty

The Granada Treaty consisted of six key provisions:

  1. The Principality of Zeon ceased all hostilities with the Earth Federation and withdrew its military forces from Earth, the Moon, and other occupied territories.
  2. Zeon’s military forces were required to disarm before returning home.
  3. Zeon retained possession of A Baoa Qu, but Solomon and Pezun were relinquished to the Earth Federation. The construction of new asteroid facilities for military purposes was prohibited.
  4. The Earth Federation gained control of Zeon’s main mobile weapon manufacturing corporations: MIP, Zeonic, and Zimmad.
  5. The dispersal of Minovsky particles in space was prohibited among all signatories.
  6. Zeon officially rejoined the Earth Federation on January 1, U.C. 0100.

The Road to Peace

The path to the Granada Treaty was paved by Prime Minister Darcia Bakharo of the Principality of Zeon, who sought to end the war after the death of Sovereign Degwin Sodo Zabi. Bakharo contacted the Earth Federation and proposed peace talks at Granada, which were accepted. The Thoroughbred escorted the Chivvay-class cruiser transporting Bakharo to Granada, as Zeon forces occupying the city were likely to attempt to prevent Zeon’s surrender.

Ratification and Legacy

On January 1, U.C. 0080, an armistice went into effect across the Earth Sphere, and all Zeon military forces were ordered to stand down. The Granada Treaty was ratified by the Principality and the Federation later that day, officially concluding the One Year War. Although the treaty brought an end to the war, true peace between Earthnoids and Spacenoids proved elusive. The next two decades would see numerous conflicts involving Zeon remnants and Neo Zeon Movements.

The treaty also had a significant impact on the mobile suit industry, as the Earth Federation acquired Zeon’s leading manufacturers, MIP, Zeonic, and Zimmad. These corporations were subsequently sold off to Anaheim Electronics, which became the Earth Sphere’s premiere mobile suit manufacturer.

A New Era

In U.C. 0100, the Republic of Zeon relinquished its independence and rejoined the Federation as mandated by the treaty. This marked a new era of cooperation between Earthnoids and Spacenoids, but the legacy of the One Year War continued to shape the course of human history.
