Dakar: The Heart of the Earth Federation

Located in northwestern Africa, Dakar is a city that has played a pivotal role in the history of the Earth Federation. Chosen as the political capital of the Earth Federation upon its founding, Dakar has been at the center of many significant events that have shaped the course of human history.

A City of Importance

Dakar is home to the Earth Federation Assembly Hall, where the members of the Earth Federation Assembly convene to make crucial decisions that affect the fate of humanity. The city has been the site of many historic events, including the Gryps War, the First Neo Zeon War, and the Third Neo Zeon War.

The Gryps War

In U.C. 0087, Dakar was the focal point of the Gryps War, a conflict that pitted the Earth Federation against the Titans. During this time, Commodore Blex Forer and Lieutenant Quattro Bajeena visited Dakar to attend meetings of the Earth Federation Assembly and argue against plans to hand over operational control of the Earth Federation Forces to the Titans. Tragically, Forer was assassinated by a Titans operative, and with his dying words, he urged Bajeena to assume leadership of the AEUG.

The First Neo Zeon War

Shortly after the end of the Gryps War, Dakar was occupied by Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon War. The city was sealed off, and many politicians and military officials were detained. However, a number of leaders managed to escape and flee to Dublin, Ireland, where they continued to run the Federation until later in the war. The combined forces of AEUG and Karaba eventually retook Dakar and forced Neo Zeon into retreat.

The Third Neo Zeon War

In U.C. 0096, Dakar was attacked by the Zeon Remnants to distract the Earth Federation Forces from noticing the descent of the Garencieres to Earth. During the attack, the EFF mobile suits guarding the capital were able to destroy most of the attacking Zeon forces, but were powerless to prevent the destruction of the Assembly Hall and several other buildings by the AMA-X7 Shamblo.

A New Era

Sometime after U.C. 0100, the Earth Federation Assembly and other key administrative functions were relocated from Dakar to the Moon and the space colonies. This move was well received by the Spacenoids, as it finally gave them the power to administrate the government.

In the Spotlight

Dakar has been featured prominently in several television series, including Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. The city has also appeared in the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

Trivia

• Despite its importance in the original series narrative, the events of Dakar were cut from the second Mobile Suit Z Gundam compilation film Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation II – Lovers.
• Dakar has been the site of many significant events in the Universal Century timeline, including the Gryps War, the First Neo Zeon War, and the Third Neo Zeon War.
