The Foundation Conflict: A Turning Point in the Gundam SEED Saga
In the year C.E. 75, the Kingdom of Foundation, led by the enigmatic Aura Maha Khyber, orchestrated a catastrophic conflict that would shake the very foundations of the Gundam SEED universe. This pivotal event, known as the Foundation Conflict, marked a critical turning point in the struggle between the Earth Alliance and the PLANTs.
The Background
The Kingdom of Foundation, born from the secession of a part of the Eurasian Federation, presented itself as a beacon of peace and unity, where Naturals and Coordinators could coexist in harmony. However, beneath this façade lay a sinister plot to implement the Destiny Plan, a scheme to create superhuman Coordinators who would rule over humanity. Aura, once a key figure in the Ultimate Coordinator Project, had secretly worked with Durandal and Ulen Hibiki to bring this plan to fruition.
The Conflict Unfolds
The Foundation Conflict began with the Eldore Incident, where Compass and the Eurasian Federation collaborated to eliminate Blue Cosmos remnants. However, Orphee Lam Tao, a Foundation leader, manipulated Kira Yamato, using the Accord’s abilities to make him attack Eurasian forces. This led to the destruction of the town of Eldore and the launch of nuclear missiles towards specific targets.
The conflict escalated with the Moscow Tragedy, where the Foundation destroyed the Eurasian capital, and the PLANT Coup d’état, in which Commander Hari Jagannath attempted to overthrow the PLANT Supreme Council. Meanwhile, the Millennium, a battleship, was hijacked by Compass personnel to rescue Lacus Clyne, who was being held captive by the Foundation.
The Battle of Requiem
As the conflict reached its climax, the ORB Fleet, led by Cagalli Yula Athha, emerged from cloaking to attack the Foundation forces. Kira Yamato, piloting the Strike Freedom Gundam, played a crucial role in the battle, while Lacus Clyne, now freed, broadcasted the truth about the Foundation’s sinister plans to the world.
The final confrontation took place at Requiem Station, where Shinn Asuka, piloting the Destiny Gundam, destroyed the superweapon, marking the end of the Foundation Conflict. The aftermath saw the decimation of the Foundation’s leadership and the neutralization of the Requiem threat.
Aftermath and Reflections
In the wake of the conflict, Lacus Clyne reflected on the power of love and indifference, while Kira and Lacus shared a moment of tenderness on a beach. The ultimate fate of the Eurasian Federation remained uncertain, but the world was forever changed by the events of the Foundation Conflict.
This pivotal event in the Gundam SEED saga serves as a testament to the enduring struggle between humanity and the forces of oppression, and the unwavering power of love and determination in the face of adversity.
