The GM Trainer: A Mobile Suit for the Next Generation

In the midst of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces faced a critical shortage of skilled mobile suit pilots. To address this issue, they developed the TGM-79 GM Trainer, a mobile suit designed specifically for training purposes.

Design and Features

The GM Trainer boasts a unique design, with two cockpits: one for the trainee pilot in the abdomen and another for the instructor above it. The instructor’s cockpit features a glass section, allowing them to observe the trainee’s actions. While its performance is similar to that of the standard GM, the GM Trainer’s armor is lighter and less durable, making it unsuitable for actual combat.

Armaments

The GM Trainer is equipped with a range of armaments, including:

• Beam Saber: a close-combat weapon that emits a plasma blade
• BR-M-79C-1 Beam Spray Gun: a handheld mega-particle gun with three firing modes
• HWF GMG·MG79-90mm Bullpup Machine Gun: a compact, high-velocity machine gun
• YHI YF-MG100 100mm Machine Gun: a standard armament for Federation mobile suit ground forces
• FADEGEL RGM-M-Sh-003 Shield: a basic defensive armament composed of a triple honeycomb structure

History

The GM Trainer played a significant role in the One Year War, particularly during the Battle of Loum. Amuro Ray, a renowned pilot, used a GM Trainer to escape from the Cheyenne Base with Quattro Bajeena’s GM Light Armor. The GM Trainer also intercepted and neutralized a unit of GM IIs piloted by Amuro’s students.

Variants

The GM Trainer has several variants, including the TGM-79C GM Canard.

The GM Trainer has appeared in various forms of media, including the TV series “Gundam Build Fighters Try” and the video game “Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2”.
