Colony of Destruction: The Devastating Gryps 2 Laser

Gryps 2: The Devastating Colony Laser

In the year U.C. 0087, the Titans, a powerful military organization, constructed a massive weapon of mass destruction known as Gryps 2. This fearsome colony laser was built using one of the two cylinders of the Green Noa 2 colony on Side 7, a strategic development base of the Titans.

Technical Overview

Gryps 2 boasted significant improvements over its predecessor, the Solar Ray colony laser constructed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War. Its energy charging system was greatly enhanced, allowing for a shorter charging time, which was a major drawback of the Solar Ray. Additionally, Gryps 2 was equipped with a nuclear pulse engine, enabling it to move to any launch point.

History

Gryps 2 played a pivotal role in the Gryps War, a conflict that ravaged the Earth Sphere. During this time, the Republic of Zeon sided with the Titans and loaned them their asteroid fortress A Baoa Qu, which became the Gate of Zedan, the Titans’ new headquarters. The Gryps 2 colony laser was completed on December 7, U.C. 0087, and was used to devastating effect, firing on Colony 18 of Side 2 and killing its inhabitants.

The Laplace Incident

Years later, during the Laplace Incident, Gryps 2 was once again used as a weapon of last resort. Martha Vist Carbine, who had allied herself with the Federation Forces, used the colony laser to prevent the disclosure of Laplace’s Box, a powerful artifact. However, her plan was thwarted by Bright Noa and the AEUG, who managed to block the laser’s beam using the Unicorn Gundam’s psycho-field.

Space Warring States Era

In the aftermath of the Laplace Incident, the Earth Federation Forces secretly repaired Gryps 2, intending to use it as a deterrent against the rising threat of the Space Warring States. However, their plans were foiled when the local residents discovered their intentions, leading to Uncle King’s death. The Land of Hymns, founded on Side 7, later converted an open colony into a colony laser, which was used in the decisive battle on Side 1.

Appearances

Gryps 2 has appeared in various forms of media, including the anime series Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, as well as several video games and manga.
