The Earth Federation: A Global Government

In the Universal Century timeline, the Earth Federation is a global government that plays a central role in shaping the course of human history. Formed in the late 21st century, the Federation’s primary goal is to promote peace and stability on Earth and in space.

History

The Earth Federation was established in response to the devastating effects of overpopulation, famine, disease, and war that plagued the planet in the late 21st century. The inauguration of the Federation’s charter marked the beginning of the Universal Century calendar system, with the year 0001 U.C. However, this event was marred by a terrorist attack on Laplace, a space station that served as the official residence of the Earth Federation Prime Minister. The attack resulted in the death of the first elected prime minister, Ricardo Marcenas.

Space Colonization

To alleviate the burden on Earth and allow it to heal, the Earth Federation launched the Space Colonization Plan. The plan involved the construction of orbital habitats, known as Bunches, which were located in the Earth-Lunar Lagrangian Points. The colonies were organized into administrative sectors called Sides. While most of the human population was forced to relocate to the colonies, the wealthy and influential members of society were able to remain on Earth, giving rise to the image of the Earth Federation as an “Earth-Born Elite.”

Conflicts and Wars

The Earth Federation has been involved in several conflicts and wars throughout its history, including the One Year War against the Principality of Zeon, the Gryps War against the Titans, and the Neo Zeon Wars. These conflicts have resulted in significant losses and have shaped the course of human history.

Government and Administration

The Earth Federation is governed by a legislative body known as the Earth Federation Assembly, which is composed of representatives from each of the Sides. The Assembly is responsible for making laws and governing the Federation. The Earth Federation Cabinet, an executive body composed of ministers, oversees various government departments.

Administrative Regions

The Earth Federation has divided the planet into eleven primary administrative regions, which are further subdivided into smaller territorial regions. These regions include North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, South Asia, East Asia, Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania.

Military

The Earth Federation’s armed forces, known as the Earth Federation Forces (EFF), are responsible for enforcing Federation edicts and maintaining peace and stability in space and on Earth. The EFF is organized into four groups: the Ground Force, the Naval Force, the Air Force, and the Space Force.

Symbolism

The Earth Federation symbol features Earth surrounded by eight triangles, representing the seven Sides and the lunar cities, located in a diamond shape on a green background. The symbol has undergone several changes throughout the Universal Century timeline.
