Torrington Base: A Strategic Stronghold in Eastern Australia
Located in eastern Australia, north of the Sydney Crater, Torrington Base was a crucial military installation of the Earth Federation Forces. This strategic stronghold played a significant role in the One Year War and subsequent conflicts.
A Hub of Military Activity
During the One Year War, Torrington Base served as the main nuclear weapons storage facility for the Earth Federation Forces. The base was attacked by Zeon forces, but the White Dingo Team successfully repelled the assault. Later, in U.C. 0083, remnants of the Principality of Zeon launched another attack, stealing the RX-78GP02A Gundam “Physalis” from the Albion as part of Operation Stardust.
A Shift in Priorities
By U.C. 0096, the base’s importance had waned due to its low strategic value. The surrounding area, once a dry wilderness, had given way to a thriving city. The base was now home to outdated mobile suits, a far cry from its former glory.
The Second Battle of Torrington Base
The Neo Zeon remnant group, the Sleeves, launched a surprise attack on Torrington Base after discovering the La+ Program’s coordinates. An Earth-based Zeon remnants group, led by Yonem Kirks, joined forces with the Sleeves. The assault caught the Earth Federation Forces off guard, but the tide turned with the arrival of the Londo Bell warship Ra Cailum and the elite Tri-Stars pilots. The Zeon remnants were ultimately defeated, and Yonem Kirks was killed in a suicide attack.
In Popular Culture
Torrington Base has made appearances in various anime series, including Gundam Build Divers. The base has also been featured in illustrations and artwork, showcasing its significance in the Gundam universe.
