The Turning Point of the One Year War: The Battle of Solomon
The Battle of Solomon was a pivotal conflict in the One Year War, a brutal and devastating struggle that ravaged the Earth and its colonies. This epic battle took place on December 24, 0079 UC, and marked a significant turning point in the war.
The Prelude to Battle
Following their defeats at Odessa and Jaburo, the Principality of Zeon’s forces were in disarray. In an effort to regroup and replenish their resources, they withdrew from Earth and focused on shoring up their defenses in space. The Earth Federation Forces, sensing an opportunity to strike a decisive blow, launched a series of attacks aimed at crippling Zeon’s space-based capabilities.
The Battle Rages On
The battle began with the arrival of the 13th Autonomous Corps, led by the crew of the SCV-70 White Base, which had been rechristened as a distraction force. Their mission was to draw Zeon’s attention away from the Federation’s main forces, which were preparing to launch a massive assault on Zeon’s space-based defenses.
As the battle intensified, the White Base and its accompanying fleet faced off against Zeon’s formidable mobile armor, including the MA-04X Zakrello and the MA-05 Bigro. Meanwhile, Amuro Ray and Char Aznable clashed in a series of intense duels, with Lalah Sune making her debut on the battlefield.
The Tide of Battle Turns
As the Federation Forces pushed deeper into Zeon’s territory, they encountered the massive MA-08 Big Zam prototype, which had been hastily constructed to reinforce Solomon’s defenses. The Big Zam proved to be a formidable foe, wiping out entire squadrons of Federation mobile suits with its devastating arsenal.
In a desperate bid to turn the tide of battle, Sleggar sacrificed his life by crashing his Core Booster into the Big Zam’s underbelly. Enraged, Amuro Ray launched a final assault on the mobile armor, striking the killing blow with his beam saber.
The Aftermath
With the destruction of the Big Zam and the death of Dozle Zabi, the Battle of Solomon came to an end. The Federation had secured a crucial victory, capturing Solomon and paving the way for their next major offensive, the Battle of A Baoa Qu.
The battle had a lasting impact on the war, with Anavel Gato earning his reputation as the “Nightmare of Solomon” and vowing to exact revenge on the Federation. Decades later, Umon Samon would recount his own tale of participating in the battle, claiming to have distracted Gato and contributed to Zeon’s development of the MSN-02 Zeong.
Legacy of the Battle
The Battle of Solomon has been immortalized in various forms of media, including the Dynasty Warriors Gundam series, where it is featured as a pivotal mission. The battle serves as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought on both sides, and its impact continues to be felt throughout the One Year War.
